The Boyd County Attorney is responsible for prosecuting misdemeanor violations and penal laws of the state that occur within the county.
How to File a Criminal Complaint (“Press Charges”) The process for filing a complaint are as follows:
- Before you contact the Boyd County Attorney’s Office, you must have your claim investigated by a police agency and have it documented in a police report. Please contact one of the following agencies based on where the crime took place:
- Kentucky State Police Post 14: (606) 928-6421
- Boyd County Sheriff’s Office: (606) 739-5135
- Catlettsburg Police Department: (606) 739-5126
- Ashland Police Department: (606) 385-3127
- The relevant law enforcement agency will then conduct an investigation and, after consultation with our office, will determine if charges can be brought against an individual based upon the evidence obtained.
- If criminal charges are appropriate, you will be required to come to the Boyd County Attorney’s Office in person to sign the complaint. After the complaint is signed, it will be submitted to the court.
If the complaint is against a juvenile, the investigating agency will work closely with Court Designated Worker’s Office (CDW) in the Boyd County Judicial Center in Catlettsburg, Kentucky
