Vehicle Inspections

Simply put, your vehicle must be in a safe condition for operation upon the highway and capable of transporting both persons and contents in a safe manner. All window glass must be in place and the vehicle must be equipped with operable front windshield wipers. Features that are checked for being in place and fully operable include, but not be limited to:

• Brake Lights
• Brakes
• Headlights
• Rear Lights
• Steering
• Turn Signals

A Boyd County Deputy Sheriff, or a Boyd County Deputy Clerk certified in vehicle inspections, will check the vehicle identification number (VIN) and compare it with the number on the Title or Certificate of Origin.

This information, along with the vehicle's mileage, is recorded on a Kentucky Application for Certificate of Title / Registration Form.

1. $5 Cash or Check payable to the Boyd County Sheriff's Office. (Inspections performed by the Clerk's office will be paid to them.)
2. Vehicle Title
3. Vehicle License Application Form (PDF)
4. Your Driver's License

Inspections can be performed at the Sheriff's Office, located at 2900 Louisa Street, Catlettsburg, KY 41129.

Or can be performed at the any of the 3 Boyd County Clerk's Office locations:
